What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I love working with others to help them to form better  relationships, creative process, and avenues for personal and spiritual growth, while using different meditation and mindfulness practices. When I discovered Art Therapy program I felt as if it was designed just for me through a union of these passions. I love being able to offer a unique and authentic way of therapy to people. I think that through life experiences and feeling fear and pain we tend to cope by trying to cover up our vulnerabilities through defenses over time. Through relationship, art, dance and mindfulness practices I am passionate about helping people to uncover their own basic health and wholeness and to allow their unique light to shine in the world. I feel privileged everyday to share in people's journey and learn just as much from them as I hope they do from me. I am inspired by my clients.

Had a Negative Therapy Experience? 
It is important to find the right fit in therapy. This fit is not only about how a therapist works but who they are. You have to like your therapist in order to have a solid relationship to work from. My approach is nurturing and sensitive to learning a persons unique language and trying to meet them right where they are in order to try to fully understand their experiences. I also strive to be as present and authentic in the therapeutic relationship. I have a holistic approach and try to address the many aspects of experience such as mental state, spiritual growth, cultural and societal context, and physical being. I also find that art therapy can be a creative and refreshing way to work with individuals. It can help people get out of their normal defenses and into a non-verbal, experiential way of communication that can be very enriching. You don't have to be an artist or have skill to do art, just a willingness to try something new.
